Speaker Biographies
Joseph R. Hyman Founder and CEO
Since he established the company in 1998, Joe Hyman has led the remarkable growth of VIZERGY as it has evolved from a software company into a comprehensive Internet marketing-services firm exclusively for hotels and resorts. With a broad and rich background in the online-travel industry, Joe provides experienced leadership in the disciplines of building website traffic and brand development.
Joe’s long background in sales, marketing and operations development have given him the skills and tools needed to create scalable organizations with highly acclaimed success.
Under Joe’s leadership, the company was a pioneer in the Internet hospitality-marketing field, creating effective solutions and reservation tools combined with the highest levels of personalized service.
Before establishing Vizergy, Joe operated an independent company that represented Johnson & Johnson and Depuy Orthopedics. In that capacity, he promoted more than 15,000 surgical products in addition to providing technical expertise to surgeons; organizing local educational programs; and forecasting, planning and developing sales strategies.
Joel Carver Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Joel’s more than twenty years of experience and leadership in the hospitality industry has been diverse and widespread. He has served on the Partner Council for EMC Venues and on the hotel committee of the National Defense Transportation Association. He currently serves as board member for the Virginia Hospitality and Tourism Association, as president of the Northern Virginia Chapter and as co-chair of the Association Marketing Committee as well as serving on the Honorary Board of Directors for the Association of Starwood Franchisees and Owners—North America (ASFONA).
Before joining Vizergy, Joel held the position of assistant vice president of sales and marketing for B.F. Saul Company-Hotel Division. Previously, he worked for six years at Wyndham Hotel Group (previously Cendant Corporation), where he co-authored two hotel sales-and-marketing texts, Marketing for the Year 2000, TODAY! and Marketing for the Next Millennium.
With a degree in hotel-and-restaurant administration, Joel has also participated as an adjunct professor and the visitor professor program at the University of Houston, Prince Georges College and Northern Virginia Community College. Over the past six years, Joel’s travel schedule has included logging more than 250,000 miles per year as a lecturer and educator on the topics of hospitality marketing.
Alex Gonzalez Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Alejandro “Alex” Gonzalez has worked in the hospitality industry since 1984, finding great success with such celebrated brands as Kirkwood Properties and Choice Hotels. As a Regional Sales Manager for Vizergy, Alex has garnered a robust knowledge of e-commerce applications, third party booking engines and SEO and PPC advertising. Alex brings his abundant knowledge of hotel sales and online marketing to clients wanting to explore the Internet channel as a viable source of revenue.
Elizabeth Parker Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Elizabeth Parker started in the hospitality industry in 1981 and quickly rose through the ranks as a Director of Sales and eventually as the Regional Director of Sales for hoteliers such as Marriott Corporation and Madison Hotel Company. As a Regional Sales Manager for Vizergy, she oversees the sales efforts from Virginia to Nova Scotia. Elizabeth brings an informed and articulate voice to members of the hospitality and online marketing industries and has even been a featured speaker at the University of Maryland’s hospitality program.
Renee Stillday Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Renee Still Day offers an abundance of hospitality industry experience and academic discipline that translates into an eloquent voice for hotel and online marketing professionals looking to increase their return on investment. She has more than 25 years of hands-on experience that includes 20 years as the Director of Sales and Director of Sales and Marketing for such hoteliers as IHG, Radisson, Choice and a number of independent properties.
Michelle Armstrong Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Michelle “Mike” Armstrong has found success in a number of different industries with more than 15 years in the hospitality industry—on both the hotel and Internet marketing sides. Mike has worked with brand, independent and preferred hotels including Hyatt, Pfister, Ambassador and Madison Concourse and has worked with the hospitality Internet marketing company TravelClick. With her broad base of experience, industry success and theater background, Mike engagingly speaks to numerous topics that help you increase your return on investment.
Jay Waite Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Jay Waite’s sales and marketing know-how will inspire your executives, managers and staff members to tackle every challenge with enthusiasm. Jay’s knack for hospitality sales and marketing will also provide insight for those looking to exceed customer expectations. Currently, Jay manages VIZERGY’s Internet marketing business for Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas and the west coast of Florida. A former employee of Hilton Hotels Corporation with the Hampton Brands Product and Service Development Team, Jay worked closely with Franchisees and National Vendors evolving the Hampton Brands product and service initiatives. A 20 year veteran of the Hospitality Industry, Jay has extensive Hotel Operations, Sales and General Manager experience.
