Importance Of Having A Secure Website

As of 2018, all websites must meet the 2018 SSL Standards for Data Security and Privacy Protection.

Several major changes made last year have pushed security issues to the forefront of priorities for website owners looking to continue doing online business. One major change being that Google gives preferential treatment to sites with valid SSL certificates.

Vizergy recently implemented one of the best SSL Certificate systems, Let’s Encrypt, in order to leverage the latest and greatest in SSL advancements. Vizergy also has the flexibility to revoke and reissue SSL Certificates quickly to ensure all websites are secure within standards of today, and tomorrow.

Below are a few reasons why having SSL in place on your website is so important:

Preferential Treatment from Google
Any website without a valid SSL certificate would be marked as “insecure” in both Google search results and when browsing in Chrome.

Chrome says they’re constantly working to keep consumers safe as they browse the web. By marking all sites that are not encrypted with HTTPS as “not secure” – it makes it easier for consumers to know whether their personal information is safe.

Avoid Legal Trouble & Hefty Violation Fines
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), enacted May 2018, set strict new rules and mandatory procedures which must be implemented by companies throughout the world, governing personal data collected from EU citizens.

This year, California implemented a similar rule called the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), which protects consumer data of California residents – similar to GDPR. These acts and regulations are just the beginning of what’s expected to become the norm when it comes to consumer privacy and security.

Secure Websites Build Trust
With SSL certificates, your customers will see visuals like a lock icon and green address bar that indicates well-trusted encryption is in use, similar to the image shown below.

In today’s market, your customers’ first impressions no longer take place the moment they walk through your doors. It happens when they visit your property’s website. Simply put, if your website is not secure, lacks updated functionality, or makes it difficult and time consuming for your potential guests to book a room or reserve a table, it is likely they will choose to go somewhere else.
